The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Announced as Divinity, the game was showcased with a audacious trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.
However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team is likely building a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
Where many modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs only possible with a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, allowing players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be solved in a variety of manners, sometimes in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can get ready for another adventure in this legendary franchise.
