Sam Fender has donated the full amount of his £25k honor cash to the trust for venues, which functions to preserve the United Kingdom's grassroots live music spots.

The star was awarded the prize on October 16 as his third album People Watching was declared the best record of the previous year.

Fender has decided to give the cash to the MVT, in acknowledgment of the vital role local spots fulfilled in his early career.

"As an artist wouldn't be doing my current career if it hadn't been for all the gigs I played around the area, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," remarked Sam Fender. "These venues are iconic, but they are in difficulty."

From early 2023 onward, over 150 of these locations have ceased operations – about 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Recently, top acts like Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the trust in its efforts to support the industry, by adding a small levy to their admission fees, which goes to help independent venues.

He also participated, raising in excess of £100,000 on his recent tour to help numerous small stages across England, Scotland, and Wales.

The money supported locations that were facing potential shutdown due to difficulties stemming from water damage, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, court cases and sound issues.

Other venues obtained monetary aid in upgrading infrastructure and technical equipment that directly benefitted artists and concertgoers.

"The concept that funds from shows in large arenas backs the local stages, where it kicks off for performers like me, is just common sense," Fender has commented.

Fender is among several artists to donate his honor funds to good deeds.

In they won the award in 1996 for their release their work, vocalist Cocker declared that the group would donate their cash to the charity the charity.

During 2002, artist Ms Dynamite divided her prize among a few charities, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"I also contributed a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they required updated gear," Ms Dynamite explained to outlets.

In recent years, the band gave their funds to the community center that nurtured their band, as well as other local music groups.

And the 1994 recipients M People gave their winnings to a multiple sclerosis charity after a friend was found to have the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," remarked artist Small. "The cash was the cherry on top but we didn't require the extra, because we had the honor. So our success impacted another person's life."

Last week, the MVT revealed it had protected a couple of local spots in that region, by transferring them to local control.

The Joiners in Southampton and The Croft in Bristol were acquired under the public acquisition program, which is funded by Arts Council England and supporters who acquire "shares" in the properties.
