'It's like they never miss a pass': Swansea's Ethan Galbraith renews contest with Manchester City.

Ethan Galbraith breaks into a smile as he reminisces about the nail-biting dying seconds of his team's epic comeback triumph against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith picking up a supporter's spectacles after the pitch-side pile-on.

With the clock ticking into the 97th minute, Galbraith struck the post with a powerful shot from 25 yards, and the defender promptly slammed home the loose ball before charging toward the home end to revel in the moment, with supporters swarming the players.

Stunning Reversal

The result capped an incredible recovery given Swansea had trailed 2-0 deep into the latter period. In the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. The midfielder recalled, "There was a fan sort of calling out and myself and Keysy [Josh Key] were thinking: 'What's he on about here?' Then we saw the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're people, too, so to have a bit of craic with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win booked a next round game at home against the Premier League champions on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with his former club in February. He had an excellent perspective when Orient took the lead in stunning style, with the attacker's long-range effort from about long distance going in via the bar and the Stefan Ortega. Many argued that it was recorded as an own goal.

"You would have wished they would've given it to him for having a go from that range," stated Galbraith, who played in the middle before shifting to right wing-back after the team changed formation. That meant competing with Jack Grealish, with whom he swapped shirts, and the winger was among the City players who paid tribute to the way Orient approached the match.

Opponent's Class

"Athletically they are outstanding but even the simple things and routine actions, they can just execute repeatedly," Galbraith says. "It feels like they always find their target and they are adept at control and neutralize a game. You can think you're all right and then suddenly they will just deliver a through ball between defenders without you even noticing. You have to be switched on every second of the game. It takes a resilient mindset and attention just to remain competitive."

Swansea Move

The club were keen on Galbraith in January and secured his signature to secure him in the summer in a seven-figure transfer. He established himself as a crowd pleaser across a couple of years at his former club and has rapidly replicated that in his new home. At the London club he reunited with the coach, who previously gave Galbraith his first extended run in first-team action on loan at Doncaster from Old Trafford. Then came a spell at League Two Salford City, before he moved on from his boyhood club.

Growth Journey

"I was perhaps a somewhat inexperienced going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say under-23s football is entirely separate. Sometimes it appears play is circulated without serious challenge. There are limited hard challenges. Once you start playing first-team football you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

He has shown that maturation for both domestically and internationally, shining for his national side, who are fighting to qualify for the global tournament next summer via the qualifying rounds and for whom he has started the recent fixtures, including two matches games against a football powerhouse. His former international manager, Galbraith's ex- international manager, paid him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "creative maestro" given how he handles the football and his knack for a game-changing assist.

Humble Beginnings

It has been quite the ride for the kid from the local area in Glengormley, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who used to see his father, his father, also a central player, play for his father's team.

Manchester United Experience

Galbraith's single match for United came in Kazakhstan in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the Kazakh capital, where they played on an synthetic surface and the stadium roof was shut owing to temperatures of freezing cold. "That proved to be a long trip and it was cold out there," he recalls, smiling. "The days leading up, several youth players and I practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to travel with the first team and make an appearance at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

How difficult was it to depart Manchester United, the club he signed from his boyhood team aged a teenager? "The decision proved quite easy, because I arrived at the moment where I knew I couldn't establish myself at first-team level. I'm very appreciative for the years at the club but it became apparent where I thought I needed to go my own route, join a smaller club and play professional soccer. Now I'm slowly climbing the ladder."

New Environment

This occurs during mid-afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has an appointment at the early evening: a road rules assessment, another progress toward getting on the road. Prior to relocating to his new neighborhood, the mid-twenties player was a constant rider in Swansea's nicknamed team minibus, a team vehicle driven by team personnel, the drivers, which transports players to and from training and matches.

"I travel with the Portuguese player, Ronald, an Ivorian player – the Swedish defender used to be in it but has started driving. It's enjoyable to interact with the guys but I'm aiming to be the next one to drive independently and on the road. Franco is known for his humor; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

When he represented Leyton Orient, Galbraith would mix with supporters on London's Central line after beginning his trip at the area he lived in. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
