Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Group

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Revealing details for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.

At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might appear out of place, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to go next after a intense first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then settled his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and trusted friend, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead saved him, have nowhere else to go.
  • However, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the group access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now follow him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and The healer turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to assemble the Explorers and Planners tables.

Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, released on next week.
